Chapter 32 Chapter 31

"Subhuti. If people say it.The Buddha said that I see people, all living beings, and life.Subhuti.What do you mean. It's people who don't understand what I mean.no.World Honored One.It is people who do not understand what the Tathagata said.why.The World Honored One said that I see people, all living beings, and those who live long. That is to say, it is not that I see others, see sentient beings, and see life. It's called "I see people, see all living beings, see life, see those who live."Subhuti.Those who send out the heart of Anuttara, Sanyak, and Bodhi.in all methods.Should know so.See you so.If so believe it.No dharma phase.Subhuti.The person who speaks the Dharma.Tathagata said. That is illegal phase. It is the name and law. "

【See you or not】 "Subhuti. If people say it.The Buddha said that I see people, all living beings, and life.Subhuti.What do you mean. It's people who don't understand what I mean. " When the Buddha mentioned this point, he first asked Subhuti, if there was a person who said, what the Buddha said, people see, I see, sentient beings see, and the longevity sees, right? The Buddhist scriptures all talk about the four phases, but here we turn in a different direction, and what we bring up is not the phases, but the views.A phase is a phenomenon.Seeing is one's own thoughts and opinions, which belong to the spiritual field. The so-called views, that is, the so-called viewpoints of new concepts, all belong to views. Therefore, the enlightenment of Tao in Zen is called seeing the ground. To see the Tao is not to see it with the eyes!In the Shurangama Sutra, there are four sentences about seeing the way:

When seeing, seeing is not seeing.Seeing is still far away from seeing, seeing is beyond reach. Look at this Buddhist scripture, hate it!See you all.The first seeing is the seeing that our eyes see, the mind and the eyes see.The second is the view of seeing the Tao. In other words, the first view is the view of what is seen, and the second is the view of seeing. Our eyes see things, this is what we see, this is a phenomenon. When you look back at what you see, you can see the Dao, and the seeing of seeing your nature with a clear mind is not what you see, it is not the eyes, you can see a phenomenon, or see a state, that is not the Dao!

So when seeing, turn around and see the view of seeing the way, and when you see the view of the mind and nature, the view is not the view. This seeing, the seeing of seeing the way, is not the seeing of seeing things with the eyes, so seeing is not seeing. So those who can see the Tao, can there be another realm?See you soon. When the eyes don’t see, the ears don’t hear, and everything is empty, say that I have seen the Tao, there is a view, and I still see it, and I still have to get rid of this view, and I still have to get rid of it. empty down.Seeing is beyond reach, the real seeing of the mind and nature is not the seeing with the eyes, not the seeing that can be seen with the eyes of the mind. After talking about a lot of views, how difficult it is to understand!

Tell us that seeing the nature with a clear mind does not mean that mountains are not mountains, water is not water, and frogs jump into the water with a thud to see everything and see nothing. , then we can talk about Zen Buddhism, and seeing the nature with a clear mind has a bit of a shadow.Remember! It's just a shadow! There are also a few very important words in the Shurangama Sutra: Knowing and seeing is the root of ignorance, and knowing and seeing without seeing is Nirvana.Knowing and seeing are later a proper name in Buddhism. Knowing is knowing, knowing all the principles of Buddhist scriptures.Seeing, and having seen this phenomenon and realm, is knowledge and perception. When you understand the principle, you go to meditate, and when you sit up, everything is empty, but you have the understanding, and you know that you are very pure when you sit there. But it is not right to have a pure presence. Knowing and seeing is the root of ignorance. If there is purity, there will be an impure power hidden in it, and there will be the power of affliction, so knowing and seeing immediately, that is, the root of ignorance. To know seeing without seeing, and finally seeing emptiness, this is Nirvana, and you can reach the edge of seeing.

【Knowing Is Not Knowing】 In the past, several great masters followed the Zen line by reading the classics, and then they became enlightened. Therefore, learning Zen does not necessarily mean sitting in meditation, and not necessarily in meditation and meditation. In the Song Dynasty, there was a Zen master Yu'an in Ruilu Temple in Wenzhou, who read Buddhist scriptures and recited Buddhist scriptures every day. When he saw the previous paragraph, he had a sudden whim, and immediately knew the original sentence. That is, there is no clear book.Seeing without seeing.Si is Nirvana.Changed the punctuation and became knowledgeable.Knowing is ignorance.Know nothing.Seeing this is Nirvana. So I realized it myself.Later, he claimed to have broken the Shurangama, and after he changed the circle and read it, he suddenly became enlightened, completely enlightened, and saw his nature clearly.Knowing and seeing are established, there is knowledge and seeing, there is purity and awareness, knowing is the root of ignorance, and this knowledge itself is the root of ignorance, which is affliction.Knowing and seeing nothing, everything is empty, reason is also empty, thought is also empty, emptiness is also empty, seeing this is Nirvana, seeing this is enlightenment. This is when he realized the Tao, and he understood it when he broke the sentence in Shurangama.

Now we have explained this truth, and after talking for a long time, don’t turn the words away and talk about the self-view, the human view, the sentient beings’ view, and the longevity person’s view; Appearance, as mentioned in the middle, seeing me with color and beseeching me with sound, is a person who has wrong views and cannot see the Tathagata. At this point, I suddenly turned around and put forward opinions, not relatives.Form is form, teacup is phenomenon, towel is phenomenon, book is also phenomenon, I am also phenomenon, he is also phenomenon, you are also phenomenon, all houses in mountains, rivers and earth are phenomena, even emptiness is phenomenon, cleanliness is also phenomenon, sleep is also phenomenon, Dreaming is also a form, and waking up is also an image. All phenomena are arising and passing away.

So some people meditate every day and ask how is he?OK!so clean.Look! With a clean look. The phase is not the Tao, and the Tao is not in the phase.Knowing and seeing is established, knowing is the root of ignorance, knowing and seeing nothing, seeing this is Nirvana. If you want to establish a pure Tao, plus the Governor Vessel on the back and the Ren Vessel in the front are unblocked, if you turn on the faucet and pour it in, it will all be unblocked. As soon as you grasp the form, knowing and seeing is established, and knowing is the root of ignorance; if you want to know and see nothing, seeing this is Nirvana.

So now tell you what the perception of perception is?He told Subhuti, if someone said, I present the views of myself, people, sentient beings, and longevity, if you talk about it, does that person understand what I mean?Does he really study Buddhism? Does he understand the Dharma? "No.World Honored One.It is people who do not understand what the Tathagata said. " Subhuti said, that's not right. Although this person studies Buddhism, he doesn't understand it at all. He doesn't understand the principles of Buddhism. "Why.World Honored One.It is said that I see people, all living beings, and longevity. That is to say, it is not that I see others, see sentient beings, and see life. It's called "I see people, see all living beings, see life, see those who live." "

Then the Buddha also said, now you ask me a hypothetical question, the view of self, the view of people, the view of sentient beings, the view of the longevity, the view of seeing the Tao, this is just a convenient way of speaking; if there is such a view, A view of seeing one's nature and seeing the Tao is just a method of expression, a term that exposes the true meaning. In fact, there is no place to see for clarity, and no place to be seen for seeing, so they are called self-view, people's view, sentient beings' view, and life-span's view. 【If you know and see】 "Subhuti. Those who send out the heart of Anuttara, Sanyak, and Bodhi.in all methods.Should know so.See you so.If so believe it.No dharma phase. "

The Buddha told Subhuti the final conclusion, you should pay attention! Those who truly study Mahayana Buddhism, who have issued anuttara-samyak-sambodhi, and who want to achieve great enlightenment, should understand all dharmas, including mundane dharmas and supramundane dharmas, and understand the principles of the Diamond Sutra layer by layer. If you see it, you must have such a view, so you have knowledge and insight. Knowing and seeing two words, plus an explanation, all Mahayana Buddhism, especially Hinayana Buddhism, is the five sequences of precepts, concentration, wisdom, liberation, and knowledge and vision of liberation.Practice in order, first observe the precepts, then practice meditation, and then use meditation to develop wisdom and enlightenment.Really enlightened, freed from all suffering, but the highest degree of liberation is still all the bondage in the material world. After all the afflictions and emotions in the world of desire and form are liberated, there is still one thing that is known and seen in the mind. This knowledge and view still needs to be liberated, and finally it must be completely empty.Just now I mentioned the establishment of knowing and seeing, knowing is the root of ignorance, knowing and seeing nothing, seeing this is Nirvana; it is also mentioned here that if you develop the Mahayana mind and want to become a Buddha from ordinary people, you should know and see all dharmas like this. How do you know? How do you see it?The so-called Dharma is non-Dharma and is called Dharma; the so-called heretics are not heretics and are called heretics; the so-called devils are not devils and are called devils; That's it!Everything, summed up as a whole, does not live in emptiness, does not live, does not have attachment, so all dharmas should be known and seen in this way. You have understood and seen this principle. If you believe in it and understand it rationally, then you are not superstitious. If the teachings of Buddhism have not been clarified, if you come to learn Buddhism and Zen meditation emotionally, you are all superstitious! Therefore, if you have clarified your knowledge and perception, then you have true faith. If you understand it in this way, after you have believed in it, it is rational to understand it in this way.Learning Buddhism and Taoism is rational, not emotional, not blind superstition, but rational understanding. 【Our Own Dharma】 Why do you say that there is no Dharma appearance? Why don't you say that you don't use the Dharma, or don't live in the Dharma, don't touch the Dharma, and don't fall into the Dharma?None of these words are used, but there is a difference if they are not used to produce the appearance of the Dharma. First of all, we need to understand what is Faxiang? All phenomena and concepts are phenomena, a form formed by consciousness and thought.Everyone has their own conception and fantasy in their consciousness; after a long time of fantasy, it becomes an unbreakable model, and they hold it firmly. This is the form in the realm of consciousness and thought, which is called Dharma in Buddhist terminology. The law includes all things, all principles, all things, and all thoughts and concepts. For example, people think that when one is fully enlightened, the light is all in the pure light. In the minds of ordinary people, the subconscious mind has already formed a form. They think that after enlightenment, when one meditates, the inside and the outside are all light, and even the generators of the electric company can be dispensed with.Think of the light as electric lights, sun light, and moon light, and subconsciously form a Dharma image, forming a form there. For another example, after enlightenment, you probably don’t want anything, don’t care about anything, go to an ancient temple deep in the mountains, sit there alone, and think you have become a Buddha. If we become such a Buddha, it doesn't matter to us if there are more than a thousand Buddhas in the world. There are already Buddhas in the mountains, and many stones and mud are placed there. From the beginning of the world to the present, they can all be called Buddhas.Anyway, they don't care about everything, everything that goes out of the world. In other words, it is the absolute self, which seems to be liberated and free from everything, but is actually the self, for the sake of the self!Think I want to be like this, because his subconscious ideology has this dharma appearance. Ordinary people don’t know anything when they sit in meditation. That’s not Buddhism, it’s your ideology, and you created this dharma. It even goes so far as to say that everything is emptiness is a Buddha, and emptiness is also a dharma, a phenomenon. Some people have opened up the second meridian of Ren Du, the eight meridians of the extraordinary meridian, and the river cart has turned around, all of which are Dharma signs.I often ask: When do you transfer to the river cart?Don't turn yourself over. There is always a time when you can’t turn around, right? When does it stop turning?Ren and Du's two veins have been opened up, where does it go?To the gutter?Or to the power company?Or to God and Bodhisattva? You have to figure it out!But many of us, unknowingly, have fallen into our self-image.Self-awareness forms a concept of Tao, a shape of Tao, and a model of Tao. From this we can understand why the religions in the world draw different heavens because of different nations and countries. Our heaven is people wearing big robes and looking like ancient emperors, and all the houses are from ancient China.Westerners' paradise is a bungalow, and their gods and gods also have high noses and blue eyes; Arabs paint differently. Therefore, heaven is formed according to one's own psychological form. Who can prove it?These are all Dharma images formed subconsciously in one's own mind. The Consciousness-Wei School of Buddhism is also called the Faxiang School. The Faxiang School starts with the analysis and research of the phenomenal world, which is all things in the world, the so-called all dharmas; finally, it studies the psychological state, the original nature of the mind, and finally realizes the whole world. universe. That is to say, Fa Xiangzong analyzes the existing life and the existing world, returns it to the heart, and then returns to the metaphysical noumenon. To put it in a Buddhist term, it starts with one's own body and mind, and then breaks through the body and mind to realize the metaphysical noumenon. Huayan School is different from Faxiang School. It starts with the metaphysical view of the universe, slowly shrinks from the huge and incomparable universe, and finally understands it in the heart, so that you can understand yourself from the body.Ordinary Buddhism is to understand the noumenon by yourself. These are two different educational methods, and we must figure it out. These different routes and different methods are called dharma appearance in Buddhist terms, all dharma appearances. Now that the Diamond Sutra is coming to an end, it tells us a truth, a very serious truth, the Buddha told Subhuti, if you want to realize the Supreme Bodhi and become a Buddha, you should know it like this, you should see it clearly, understand it clearly, you should Believe in this way, understand in this way.How do you understand it?In a word, if you don’t give birth to a dharma, don’t create something in your heart, and don’t give birth to a Buddha in your subconscious mind.Everyone understands the Buddha, the Dao, and the realm of pure Nirvana in each person's heart. They are all different. Why are they different? It is created by your ideal, and what you give birth to is born of this heart. So you don't generate your own Dharma, don't look for it again, and don't form a concept of self-consciousness.For example, when we are in the same class, among a hundred students, each of them has a different level of understanding, because each of them has a self-generated dharma image in his heart and constitutes a phenomenon by himself, which is not the ultimate. This is the Buddhist scriptures say, all the blind touch the elephant, each holding on to one end of the truth.Although the blind man feels the elephant and holds one end, the end he touches is also part of the elephant, and there is nothing wrong with it.It can only be said that if each person catches a little bit, the whole elephant will be formed together. If we want to fully understand the whole elephant, what the Buddha told us is that there is no appearance of dharma, and nothing is attached to it.Next, the Buddha overthrew again. 【I want to go, you come here】 "Subhuti. The person who speaks the Dharma.Tathagata said. That is illegal phase. It is the name and law. " The Dharma appearance mentioned in the Buddhist scriptures is not the Dharma appearance at all, so it is called the Dharma appearance. This is often said in the Diamond Sutra.Where is the reason? Those are educational methods. It is like a boat crossing a river. The purpose is to let you cross the river. Once you have crossed the river, don’t carry the boat on your back. You must quickly leave the boat and go your own way. There are twelve volumes of Buddhist scriptures, all kinds of sayings, sometimes they say emptiness, sometimes they say there is, sometimes they say that there is neither emptiness nor existence, and sometimes they say that there is both emptiness and existence. Which one is correct?Neither of those things is right or wrong, and you should not give birth to a Dharma image yourself. Talking about a dharma includes various phenomena. For example, in the Consciousness-Wei School, in addition to dividing the heart into eight consciousnesses, it also summarizes the phenomena of mental activities and outlines them in principle to form one hundred dharmas. If you analyze it in detail, of course there are more than a hundred; but when ordinary people in later generations study Consciousness-only, they will get into it and cannot climb out. What realm have these people gotten into?Drill down to existence, into all dharmas that are supreme and righteous.Just like when Nagarjuna Bodhisattva talked about Prajna as an analogy to emptiness, it is different from the teaching method of the Consciousness-Only School of Dharma, but ordinary people who study Prajna fall into the Dharma of emptiness. Therefore, any dharma image cannot live, it is not. The Buddha finally told us that the so-called dharma appearance, that is, the illegal appearance, is just a convenience for speech, opportunity, and education. The purpose is to make you understand. If we don’t understand this way, he will use another method, always trying to make us understand. However, people of later generations, after recording his educational methods, will never be able to figure out whether they cling to the emptiness he said, or try to catch everything. In fact, the Buddha explained very clearly that everything does not fall into the Dharma. After not falling into the dharma, everyone said that the Diamond Sutra is about emptiness. As we have said before, the Diamond Sutra does not have any point to teach us to view emptiness. What is it, you have to find it yourself. I remember at the beginning of the Diamond Sutra, I mentioned two Zen koans, one is that a son learns from his father to be a thief, right? The other one is the koan in prison, and now let me tell you a Zen story. There was a young man who became a monk to study Buddhism and seek Taoism. He wanted to be enlightened and followed his master for decades. This master was always very strict with him, controlling his life and behavior very strictly. But when asked about Buddhism, Master always refused to talk about it.This person is just like our young people learning Buddhism today. It seems that when they find a teacher, they will immediately tell him the secret, teach you a mantra, or teach you a method. If you meditate today, you will fly tomorrow, and you will be successful. Buddha; such a Dharma image has been formed in my own consciousness. So is the psychology of the person. But this master, when asked about the true Dharma, said: You can learn by yourself!Do your own research! He thought to himself, he became a monk when he was twelve or thirteen years old, and he has been seeking Buddhism and Taoism every day for decades. What a teacher! He is a world-renowned great teacher and a man of Taoism, but he has worked so hard to follow him, and the Dharma has not been taught to him, so I feel really troubled. One day he thought of a way and took a small knife up the mountain. The master was about to walk back on this path, and only one person could walk on the path, so he stood at the intersection and waited for the master to come back.It was raining that day, and the road on the mountain was slippery and difficult to walk. He saw Master walking slowly with his head down.In fact, his master probably knew where this guy was. He thought the master didn't know. When he saw the master coming, he grabbed the master and said, "Master, let me tell you. I have been seeking the Dharma for decades, but you refuse to tell me. Today I will Don't die. Then he took out the knife, if you don’t tell me about the Dharma, Master, I will kill you.The master was very calm, and he still held an umbrella in his hand. Seeing him like this, he grabbed his hand holding the knife and said, "Hey, the road is very narrow. I want to pass. Come here."Master pulled him over, and he passed by himself. When he heard that I was going to go over, he suddenly became enlightened when you came over. Let's all refer to it, I want to go, you come here, this sentence will enlighten him, what is the reason for this? This is the so-called Zen koan. Now it is difficult for everyone to find out the answer. What I said is not the real answer. I can only give you an example: the most difficult thing for us to learn Buddhism is the troubles in our hearts, the sensations in our bodies, numbness in our legs when we sit up, and numbness in our legs when we don’t sit up. Sometimes my heart is constantly troubled; I really want to seek purity, but I will never find it.Worrying constantly, ask yourself what to do?The master in you must tell you: I want to go, come here! After the afflictions have run away, it will be pure. The past heart cannot be obtained, the present heart cannot be obtained, and the future heart cannot be obtained; if there is no appearance of dharma, it should have no place to live and give birth to its heart, it is as simple as that. So, I want to go, you come here, this road is basically the same, affliction is Bodhi, where there is an affliction that will always stay in the heart! If you try to find a way to empty your afflictions and seek to be pure, wouldn’t you be that master and disciple stuck in the road forever, unable to get through? You can see that their education method is very simple. I want to go there, but you come here, and you don’t care about the sword or the apprentice. The apprentice will understand and enlighten the Tao.It can be seen that he is usually self-generated, and he has a concept of Buddha and a concept of Tao.The most feared thing in life is to be possessed by demons. In fact, if you have studied Buddhism, learned Taoism, and tied Taoism with Buddhism, you are possessed by demons; . Purity is also a demon! That's why the Zen master said a few words: the mind is a demon, what is a demon? It's just your thoughts, your own Dharma image.I am sorry that the mind is a yin demon, everyone pay attention! Many people fall into this demonic state, just want to meditate and don't know anything, thinking that they don't know what is entering meditation, that means not being able to move their minds, and falling into the realm of five yins if they can't move their minds, they are yin demons.I can't help but be an affliction demon, sometimes it seems very pure, do you think it is very pure?Sometimes I feel like there are some wandering thoughts in my heart, but it doesn't matter, but I am also confused. This is the demon of affliction and ignorance. What are you talking about?Where does the devil come from?Demons are completely created by the mind, nothing else. It's a demon in the sky when you think about it.Don't worry, thinking about it is a yin demon. If you can't afford to fall, you are a troubled demon.that is it. Buddhism analyzes the demonic realm very clearly, while Zen masters use the inductive method to tell you very simply. In fact, these psychological conditions and realms are all self-generated phenomena. From this point of view, the more we study Buddhism, the more we learn about consciousness-only research, we have learned all twelve Buddhist scriptures, the more you learn, the more tightly you are bound by the rope of Dharma. So when we are about to make a conclusion, the Buddha told us that the ultimate goal is not to give birth to the appearance of dharmas. We give its concluding gatha: 【Thirty-first verse】 "Jiuxiao Cranes Chirping No Trace Weeping Blood Rhododendrons Lost Their Souls" Score to the sound of the lion strings intermittently, for whom to work hard to sing the deserted village" This is a reflection. If you have been to the northwest and high mountains in China, or to Mount Qingcheng and Mount Emei, you may have heard the call of white cranes.Chinese characters are wonderful, rooster crowing is crowing, bird crowing is singing, tiger crowing is whistling, expressing different sound patterns; white cranes are called cranes. The white crane calls at high altitude, and the sound is like a gong, which can be heard far away, so this bird is very different from other birds. Cranes chirping without a trace, that is to say, the Buddha's teachings are like the white cranes in the nine heavens, whose cry resounds through the sky, trying to wake up the dreams of all the people in the world. But have we been awakened by him? Many people in the world can't wake up, it's really sad to think about it.As a result, I traveled thousands of miles to learn Buddhism, and no matter whether I became a monk at home, I became like a cuckoo bird. The weeping blood cuckoo lost his soul. It is said that the cuckoo was an emperor who was extremely sad because of the subjugation of the country in ancient times. Because he cried every day, his spirit turned into a cuckoo bird, and he was still crying. At the end of crying, his eyes bleed and dripped on the soil to become the present rhododendrons.Dujuan has many other names, also called Du Yu, also called Dizi, the son of the emperor of Shu.Our later generations who study Buddhism and Taoism are all cuckoos, abandoning their families and children to concentrate on studying Buddhism. In the end, we did not see the shadow of Taoism. We only blame ourselves for not meeting a wise teacher, not encountering Buddha, and not obtaining the Dharma. In fact, the Dharma is the most ordinary and the simplest, and the Buddha has finished talking about it in the Diamond Sutra. When the sound of lion strings is intermittent, the Diamond Sutra is equal to the strings of lions. The sound of the qin made of the tendons of lions will give all animals a headache when they hear it. The lion is the king of beasts. The Dharma taught by the Buddha is the philosophy within the philosophy, the sutra within the classics, the true metaphysical Taoism in the world, straightforward, and tells us everything, but we don’t know it.This piano score played to the lion's strings, whether the voice played the Diamond Sutra, the Lotus Sutra, or the Huayan Sutra, intermittently, played them all for us, and sang all the brilliant songs for us. don't know. It's like a beggar singing the lotus flower falling along the door. After singing for a long time, no one listens to it, and people don't think it sounds good. This is to humor Shakyamuni Buddha. In fact, I really shed tears of sympathy for Shakyamuni Buddha. He has talked about the thirty-first grade, and he is almost finished. Who understands him?Why should he speak there?Who are you working hard to sing about the deserted village? It's useless to sing it again, because it's rare to meet a bosom friend, and you'll never understand. In fact, he said it most kindly, most mundanely. Let's look back again now. At the very beginning of the Diamond Sutra, the first key point is the three words of good protection.Whether it is an ordinary person or a Buddha, there is only one method, which is good protection. What do you think?Nowhere to live. Why have nowhere to live? It's very simple, it doesn't produce dharma signs. What about a person who has become a Buddha? It's the same, eating and dressing, eating enough, washing feet and meditating, it's just so ordinary.Nothing shines on your head!My heart is shining!Six magical powers!Neither come.Eat and dress and sit on the seat. Then you ask questions and he answers, it's that simple. The Diamond Sutra is the truth in the ordinary, the detachment in the ordinary.
