Chapter 21 light and fire

Night Circus 艾琳.莫根斯坦 491Words 2023-02-05
You walk into a bright, open field surrounded by striped tents. Many curved passages extend out along the perimeter of the field, turning into an invisible secret place densely covered with shining spots in the distance. Many vendors weave through the crowds around you, selling drinks and snacks of all kinds, sweets flavored with vanilla and honey, chocolate and cinnamon. A cartilaginous stuntman in a gleaming black costume twists and twists his body into unimaginable poses on a nearby stage. A juggler tossed a number of black, white and silver balls into the air that seemed to linger in mid-air before falling back into his hands, to the applause of the enthusiastic audience.

Everything is bathed in glowing firelight. The light came from a campfire in the center of the arena. As you get closer, you'll see a campfire burning in a large black iron cauldron with a clawed bottom. The edges of the pot split into long, curly bars that seemed to be melted and pulled apart like taffy. The curved iron coils extend upwards, and finally roll back towards the mouth of the pot, interweaving back and forth with other iron coils, giving people the impression of an iron cage. The flames could be seen through the gaps between the iron coils, and came out faintly.Only the bottom part is dark, so you can't see if it's wood, coal, or anything else that's burning.

Those dancing flames were not yellow or orange, but white as snow.
