Chapter 72 catch up

Night Circus 艾琳.莫根斯坦 2228Words 2023-02-05
On the way from Boston to New York, November 1, 1902 On a cold morning, Bailey looked unrefined when he layered his faded gray coat over a brand new charcoal gray suit.He wasn't sure if the two shades would complement each other, but the streets and stations were so busy that he didn't have time to worry too much about his appearance. There were other dreamers who were going to New York, but they finally bought tickets for the later train, so everyone took turns saying goodbye to each other, divided dozens of bags in confusion, and hurriedly boarded the train. The journey was slow and slow, and Bailey stared at the ever-changing scenery outside the window, gnawing his nails absent-mindedly.

Victor sat down beside him, a red leather book in his hand. I thought you might want to read something to pass the time.he said as he handed the book to Bailey. Bailey opened the cover, browsed the book, and was amazed to see such a meticulously organized scrapbook. Most of the black pages were covered with newspaper clippings, but there were also handwritten letters, some dated only a few years ago, and some far older than ten years. Not all in English, Victor explained: But at least you should be able to understand most of the articles. Thank you.Bailey said. Victor nodded and returned to the seat on the opposite side of the car.

Bailey forgot about the scenery as the train chugged along. He took Frederick.Mr. Dyson's writings have been read and reread and found to be both familiar and intoxicating. I've never seen you suddenly become interested in a new dreamer before. He overheard Lorena say to her younger brother: You Qi even took your book out to share. I've never been to this point before. He reminds me of Frederick.Victor only answered this one sentence. They had almost arrived in New York when Elizabeth took the vacant seat across from him.Bailey took note of where he was in the half-read article before putting the book down. That article compared the light and shadow interaction of a certain tent with a puppet theater in Indonesia.

We lived a very strange life, traveling around chasing our dreams, Elizabeth looked out of the window and said quietly: I have never seen such a young dreamer, the feeling of the circus is the same as that of the circus for many years We are just as strong.I want to send you this. She handed him the red wool scarf she had been knitting in fits and starts.Bailey had seen her knitting before, but Bailey hadn't expected it to be so long, with intricate twist patterns on each end. I can't accept this.He said that part of him feels deeply honored, and part of him hopes that people will stop giving him things.

Nonsense, said Elizabeth: I am always knitting, and I have no shortage of yarn. When I first started knitting, I didn't have any particular dreamer in mind.So it seems destined to be for you. Thank you.Bailey said that despite the warmth in the train, she wrapped the scarf around her neck. You're welcome, said Elizabeth: We'll be there soon, and we'll just have to wait for the sun to set. She left Bailey in the window seat.Bailey stared at the gray sky outside the car, feeling mixed feelings of comfort, excitement and tension. When they arrived in New York, Bailey was immediately overwhelmed by the strangeness of everything around him.Although not very different from Boston, Boston has a certain temporary familiarity. At this moment, without the comforting peace of the train, he realized how far away he was from home.

Victor and Lorena seem to be equally confused, but this is Elizabeth's familiar territory. She led them across intersections, drove them onto streetcars, and eventually even Bailey began to feel like one of the sheep. It didn't take long, though, to reach their destination, just outside the city, where they joined another local dreamer, August, whose room Bailey took over in Boston. He kindly and courteously invited them to spend the night at his house until lodging was found. It turned out that August was a burly guy with a pleasant personality, and his first impression of Bailey was that he was like his house: the building itself was low, with a porch wrapping around the front, exuding a warm and welcoming feeling. He almost lifts Elizabeth off the ground when he says hello; when someone introduces him to Bailey, he shakes hands so intensely that Bailey's fingers ache afterwards.

I have good news and bad news, said August as he helped them lift their bags out on the porch: Which one should I say first? Let’s talk about the good news first. Before Bailey had time to think about which method is better, Elizabeth replied: We are too tired to hear the bad news directly. The good news, August said, was that I was right on my predictions about the exact location of the circus, which is less than a mile from here.If you lean out, you can see the tent from the end of the porch. He stood on the stairs, pointing down to the left of the porch. Bailey rushed to the end of the porch, followed by Lorena. The tops of the striped tents could be glimpsed through the woods some distance away, a bright white point against the gray sky and the brown trees.

Great, said Elizabeth, teasing Lorena and Bailey, who were leaning over the railing, and what was the bad news? I'm not entirely sure if that counts as bad news, August said, as if he didn't know how to explain it, maybe it should be called disappointment. It's about the circus. Bailey stepped down from the railing and turned back to join the conversation, his elation fading. disappoint others?Victor asked. Well, the weather is not ideal, as you must have noticed.said August, pointing to the heavy gray cloud. There was a violent storm last night and of course the circus was closed. That's weird in itself, though, because I've never seen it just camped out and closed for bad weather the first night.Anyway, around midnight, there was something I don't know what to say, just some kind of noise. There was a crashing sound that almost made the house shake.I thought maybe something had been struck by lightning. There was a lot of smoke coming from above the circus, and one neighbor swore he saw a flash as bright as day.I went for a walk this morning and couldn't see anything wrong. But the closed notice is still hanging on the gate.

That's weird.Lorena commented. Bailey jumped over the porch railing without saying a word, and ran straight through the trees. He rushed towards the striped tent at high speed with all his strength, the red scarf fluttering behind him.
