Chapter 24 twenty four

When Mason and Della. When Streeter drove up the slope and turned the last turn, and arrived at Yandinger's camp on the high ground, it was getting late, and there was a purple halo in the distant sky where it meets the desert. Yan Dinger walked slowly towards the car, and Mason stopped the car.Yan Ding'er walked indifferently at first, until he recognized the car, and then recovered his friendly demeanor. Mason and Della.Streeter climbed out of the car to stretch his muscles stiff from the long journey. A little news for you, said Mason, I'll be here for a day or two to cleanse my mind of what is called civilization. The murder case is solved.

who did it Magistrate Gregory of Los Angeles and Lieutenant Trager. No, I mean who is the murderer? Moffgate killed Banning.Clark.He fired at Dr. Kenward first, thinking he had hit Banning, who was sleeping in his sleeping bag.Clark.By the time he realizes he made a mistake and you left in the trailer, he starts looking for you again. If it weren't for the coincidence that your car stopped at a red light at an intersection a few blocks in front of his car, he might never have found you.Clark has been poisoned, and you have to call the hospital again.Just as you're calling the hospital, Moffgate opens the door of the trailer, goes in, shoots Clark, and comes out, so fast.

Why did he do this?Yan Dinger asked. This has a lot to do with you.Mason said. Yan Dinger frowned. Mrs. Clark made a will in December 1941 and she died in January 1942.Small was a witness to the new will, and another witness was named Craig Law.The Bradissons had bribed Moffgate not to make a new will and to send the earlier will for probation. And this will was made before Clark gave his wife the stock. At that time, she didn't have much property to her name, so she left it to her mother and her brother, half of it. But why kill Clark?Yan Dinger asked. Because Clark found some clues. While examining her wife's correspondence files, he discovers a diary. On the December 5th page there are several names: Witness to Los Angeles, Rupert.Craig Law and Hayward.small.You remember, he told me he wanted me to do another thing. He signed a joint stock agreement, and having me represent Mrs. Sims in the fraud case was just an excuse for him to try me.He had been scammed by a lawyer once and didn't want to repeat the same mistakes.

After the shooting and the poisoning of Bradisen's mother and child, Clark believed his life was at stake. He doesn't want to tell me the whole thing just yet, but once something happens to him, he wants me to do justice. You must remember that he knew how bad his heart was, and every step of the way had to be planned, and every moment he was risking death. Yan Dinger took out a small piece of shredded tobacco from his pocket, bit off a corner, and chewed it in his mouth. Moffgate returned to the building after killing Clark. The Bradissons were no longer there.Della and I were drugged to sleep.Wilma.Staller was busy attending to Dr. Kenward, who had of course been wounded by Moffgate.

Mofgate turned over Clark's desk.He could have destroyed Clark's will, but he was afraid that Clark had mentioned it to me and if so, I would have doubts if the will could not be found. But Clarke mentioned in his will that the clue he left for me was somewhere in a drawer of his desk, where he kept her wife's diary.Muffgate the hell knew I'd be hunting for clues, and he'd heard Wilma mention the lazy mosquito, and Clarke had mentioned it in his will, and he poured the gold out of the vial, Caught a mosquito, put it in a vial, and left it there for me to find, like a lazy mosquito chirping when Moffgate sneakily cracked the message Clark left on the stone wall with ultraviolet light, or It was when Moffgate was peeking in the dark, and Clark used ultraviolet light to modify the pattern on the wall.

Yan Dinger, Clark left all his property to you.Mining company shares placed in my name.I didn't dare to say it before, but I naturally hold these stocks as your client. In addition, it includes all other property that Bradisson has been defrauded of. Yan Ding'er was stunned for a moment, without saying a word. How did you find these?he asked after a while. Lieutenant Tragg arrests Moffgate in Los Angeles and retrieves Mrs. Clark's diary from his pocket.I immediately thought this was Banning. The real clue Clark left in his drawer. We found Rupert.Craig Law, it was a long-distance call. He still remembers the witness thing. We also tricked Small and Bradisson into countersuing. And so the truth came out, and Moffgate finally made a full confession.Bradisson, fed up with blackmail, wanted to get rid of Small too, so he put arsenic in the salt shaker and some ipecac. After he and his mother ate it, they pretended to be poisoned. It was just a spoof to divert people's attention away from suspicion when Small was given the arsenic from Pete's bag twenty-four hours later.Just after the board meeting, the opportunity finally came. They saw Dorina put a note under the sugar bowl, and they knew that Small often asked for a cup of tea in the evening, with sugar. When Jim saw Small looking at the teapot, he put the arsenic in the sugar, where his mother stood so that he could not see it.But Small hadn't had tea that night because of personal problems, and Jim couldn't tell.

These despicable bastards, Yan Dinger said, if Banning had given me the evidence earlier, there would be nothing we could do. Yes, it's all over. There's a little more detail. But these, Mason told him, were the main circumstances. Forget about those little things, Yan Dinger said, I think you are tired of this case, and so am I.I see you and Streeter are here, how about we make a meal together?Lucille is coming tonight and we're going to town tomorrow for our wedding party.I would have liked to put it off because of Banning's death, but I knew what Banning would think and he would want me to move on.So we decided to marry the two couples together.

two pairs?Mason asked. Yan Dinger moved the cigarette in her mouth, nodded and said: Dr. Kenward and the nurse have decided to go to Las Vegas to get married, and my Lucille and I will go together.Oh, I'm going to get all the food out, there's a little party tonight, and Lucille's supposed to come too. Yan Ding'er hurriedly turned and walked towards the blackened stone pile, and lit the fire. Mason turned to Della.Streeter said: You know what? What? I bet the pastor would save a lot of trouble by blessing three couples at once. She looked at him tenderly and said: Boss, this is impossible.

Why? She looks out at the boundless desert, aren't we very happy now?You can't imagine what marriage will turn us into, she said.I'll have a home, I'll be a housekeeper, and you'll get a new secretary. You don't need a home, and I don't want you to get another secretary. You're tired, you've been outwitting a murderer, so you feel like getting married and starting a family. The day after tomorrow you will go looking for a new case, throw yourself into the work like crazy, come out of a desperate situation, and solve the case. This is the life you want, and I hope you will too. You'll never live in peace, and I don't want you to.Moreover, Yan Dinger will not come to the camp tomorrow.

Mason walked up to her, put his arm around her shoulders, held her close to him and said: I can discuss this with you.he said softly. She smiled and said: Of course you can speak your truth, but even if you can convince me, you can't convince yourself. You know I'm right. Mason wanted to say something, but stopped, and just hugged Della tightly. They just stood there silently looking at the colorful distant mountains under the scarlet sunset. And, Della said with a laugh, we're all battle-hardened veterans, we can't waste time on romance, we still have work to do.Yan Dinger needs help, maybe he will let me cook.

I bet 1 to 10 he won't.Mason said. won't what? You won't be asked to help with the cooking. No one bet.Didn't you see that Yan Ding'er doesn't waste time looking at the scenery when he has work to do. They walked towards the fire and saw Yan Ding'er squatting by the fire, stood up again after a while, walked to the food box, and then stopped to look at the desert. They came to him, and Yan Dinger said reverently: No matter what I am doing, I always stop for a while and look at the desert at this time. This will make you realize that a person may be very capable, but he is really small .You know, the desert is the kindest mother of man, because she is so cruel.Cruelty will make you alert and self-reliant, which is what the desert requires of you.She doesn't need those weak guys. She was so hot that when the sun was burning, all you saw was cruelty. But at this time of day, she'll smile at you and tell you that cruelty is essentially kindness, and if you put yourself in the desert's place, you'll understand.
