Chapter 14 Forbidden City.museum

Nine palaces, millions of treasures, the Beijing Palace Museum deserves it. The three halls of the former dynasty are the Hall of Supreme Harmony, the Hall of Central Harmony, and the Hall of Baohe; spectacular.I have never heard of a tourist who came out of the Forbidden City or the Forbidden City without being amazed. In the past 30 years, the work done by the Palace Museum can be summarized as: maintaining ancient buildings, holding exhibitions, receiving Chinese and foreign audiences, sorting out cultural relics in storage, providing Ming and Qing archives for academic circles, and restoring cultural relics.

All the palaces on the central axis from Meridian Gate (near Tiananmen Square) to Shenwumen (near Jingshan) have been trimmed, oiled, gilded and painted. The overhaul of the Meridian Gate is a major project since Qianlong. In terms of cultural relics collection, more than 500 pieces have been recovered one after another.Wang Xianzhi's "Mid-Autumn Post" and Wang Xun's "Boyuan Post" are well-known; Gu Kaizhi's "Fu Tu of Luoshen", Zhan Ziqian's "Picture of Outing in Spring", Zhang Zeduan's "Picture of Rising the River during Qingming Festival", these fine works have been displayed for the audience to appreciate.

Compared with the "Four Kinds of Catalog of the Lost Paintings and Calligraphy in the Forbidden City", about half of them were recovered, and almost all of them were fine works.More than 20,000 pieces of famous porcelain, more than 10,000 pieces of bronze wares, and more than 200,000 pieces of various arts and crafts and miscellaneous antiquities were newly collected. Therefore, the total number of cultural relics in the Forbidden City is more than 900,000 pieces, or one million collections. The Palace Museum in the Forbidden City was truly the No. 1 headquarters of the feudal class during the Cultural Revolution. However, it survived. According to folklore, it was thanks to the former Premier Zhou Enlai, who finally persuaded the young Red Guard general who was about to smash the Forbidden City to pieces.

It is the feudal ideology and all feudal vices that absolutely need to be destroyed, not the well-behaved Forbidden City. The further one moves toward modernization, the more clearly one will see this. Don't talk extravagantly that you are willing to cut yourself to pieces and dare to pull the emperor down, let's do some serious things in a down-to-earth manner. (1980)
