Chapter 6 six

It had actually been decided to go for a ride with the Driffields the next morning. I knew it would do no good to ask my uncle if I could go.If he finds out I'm out with them and gets into a fight about it, that's okay.If Ted.Driffield asked me if I had my uncle's permission, and I was going to tell him that I had my uncle's permission.But it turned out that I didn't have to lie at all.The tide was high that afternoon, and I went to the beach for a swim, and my uncle, who happened to be in town on errands, walked with me for a while.As we passed the door of the Bear and Key Inn, Ted.Driffield came out of it.He saw us and walked straight towards my uncle.I was taken aback by his calm look.

Well, if he went to Hayward's and said he wanted the paper and wax I got, they'd bring it to him.
