Chapter 61 exclusivity
John Lennon sings in his song to imagine a time when religion does not exist. It is indeed hard to imagine. Muslims in the Middle East remind us every day that religion affects every move and breath of people.
Religions all over the world have a characteristic, which is the unshakable faith of the believers. When a Muslim prostrates himself on the south pilgrimage, a believer enters the church, and an old woman puts incense in front of the altar, the essence of their beliefs is not different. The only difference is probably that each of them believes that what they believe in is the only truth. So the Hindus want to tear down the temples of Islam, and when the government announces that untouchables can get government positions, they are furious, because it is against the will of God.Every religion has its own scriptures, traditions, and people to support it, where reason has no place, and the first condition is belief.
When a kind of thought and doctrine is firmly believed and cannot be tampered with in the slightest, that kind of doctrine and thought has been exalted on the altar, and human beings can only kneel before God humbly and worship.Religion needs obedient citizens, not reformers. So Galileo was forced to abandon his own ideas, and there was no place for new ideas under the exclusiveness of religion.
The progress of science lies in the abandonment of previous ideas and systems. I just don’t know whether religion can transcend this law. Religion may enable us to follow a certain moral standard, but it is undeniable that it also limits us to a certain set of concepts. Reject everything else.
