Chapter 3 1. Top-notch people find ways, while bottom-notch people find excuses

In today's society, what kind of employees are the most popular in the unit? In a senior executive class held by Tsinghua University, I, as the lecturer, raised such a question to everyone. If you are an employee who is responsible for your own future and destiny, I believe this must be one of your most concerned issues.Because if you don't understand this, your development in the workplace will be greatly restricted and you will have to take a lot of detours.If you understand this point, you will find the key to rapid development, and your chances of success will be greatly improved.

Regardless of whether you have come to a conclusion or not, I hope the following stories and viewpoints can provide a reference for your thinking on this issue. A boss surnamed Huang told his own story: More than ten years ago, he worked as a salesman in a building materials company.At that time, the company's biggest problem was how to collect accounts.The product is good and the market is good, but after the product is sold out, it is always impossible to receive the payment in time. There was a customer who bought the company's 100,000 yuan product, but always refused to pay for various reasons. The company sent three groups of people to collect the account, but they failed to get the payment.At that time, not long after he started working in the company, he was sent to collect debts together with another employee surnamed Zhang.They tried hard and softly, trying their best.Finally, the customer finally agreed to give the money and asked them to come and pick it up in two days.

They rushed there two days later, and the other party gave a cash check of 100,000 yuan. They happily took the check to the bank to withdraw money, but they were told that there was only 99,920 yuan in the account.Obviously, the other side played another trick, and they gave a check that could not be cashed.The next day is the Spring Festival holiday. If I don't get the money in time, I don't know how long it will be delayed. In such a situation, ordinary people may be helpless.But he suddenly had an idea, so he took out 100 yuan and asked Xiao Zhang, who was going with him, to deposit it into the account of the client company.As a result, there will be one hundred thousand yuan in the account.He cashed the check immediately.

When he returned to the company with the 100,000 yuan, the chairman praised him greatly.After that, he continued to develop in the company. Five years later, he became the deputy general manager of the company, and later became the general manager. This wonderful account collection story won warm applause from everyone.Everyone admired his spirit of taking the initiative to find a way in everything, and agreed that his development today is closely related to his spirit. On the contrary, the story told by another boss made everyone think deeply about the quality of employees from another angle.

He said that he once formally recruited an employee, but unexpectedly, he had to fire her in less than half a month. The employee was a female college student who had just graduated. She had good knowledge and a good image, but she had an obvious problem: she was not serious about doing things, and always made excuses when encountering problems. Everyone had a good impression of her when she first started working.But within a few days, she started to be late, and the office leader asked her several times, but she always found one or another excuse to explain. One day, the leader arranged for her to deliver materials to Peking University, and she had to travel to three places, but she returned after only one trip.The leader asked her what was going on, and she explained: Peking University is so big.I asked several times in the reception room before I found a place.

The boss was angry: These three units are all famous units of Peking University. You ran all afternoon, how could you only find this one unit? She was in a hurry to defend: I really went to look for it, if you don't believe me, you can ask the person in the reception room! The boss was even more angry: what am I going to ask the receptionist for?You didn't find the unit yourself, and you asked the boss to verify it. What is this? Other employees also kindly helped her with ideas: You can ask the switchboard of Peking University for the phone numbers of the three units, and then contact them separately to ask how to get there;

Didn't you find one of those units?You can ask them how to get to the other two; You can also ask teachers and students after entering Unexpectedly, she ignored her colleague's kindness at all, and instead said angrily: Anyway, I have tried my best At this moment, the boss made up his mind to fire her: Since this is the level you have reached after you have tried your best, you must not have a higher level.Then I have no choice but to ask you to leave the company! Although the behavior of the girl is difficult for many people to understand, everyone still thinks that it is not uncommon in the workplace for people like this to find excuses instead of finding solutions to problems.And their fate is also obvious. Employees who make excuses for everything will never have any market in the unit.

The two employees mentioned above are actually representatives of two different types of employees: the employee in front, no matter how difficult the problem is, the first thing he thinks of is not to shrink back, but to find a solution.In contrast, the young college student, despite the simplicity of the problem, still made excuses for not doing it and justified himself. A person who makes excuses will not take the initiative to find a way to solve the problem. Even if there is a ready-made solution in front of him, he will find it difficult to accept it. This is the fundamental difference between a first-class employee and a low-ranking employee.

For this reason, I conducted a survey on more than 100 students in this senior executive class. The first question I investigated was: Which type of employees are you least willing to accept? The result is as follows: (1) Employees who make excuses for not working hard; (2) Employees who harm public welfare and private interests: (3) Employees who are too fussy; (4) flashy employees; (5) Employees who cannot be wronged. The second question I investigated was: What kind of employee is your favorite employee? The result is as follows: (1) Employees who are not assigned work but can take the initiative to find something to do;

(2) Employees who find ways to double their performance; (3) Employees who never complain; (4) Employees with strong execution ability; (5) Employees who can provide constructive suggestions for the unit. The results of this survey further confirmed our previous conclusion: employees who make excuses for everything must be the most unpopular employees in the unit.Employees who take the initiative to find a way in everything must be the most popular gold medal employees in the unit! So, I thought of Jason.Kidd, he once recounted a small incident that affected his life: When he was a child, his father often took him to play bowling.He doesn't play well, and for this, he always finds various reasons.

One day, when he once again made excuses for his bad play, his father interrupted him unceremoniously: stop making excuses.You don't play well because you don't practice and don't want to sum up your methods.If you had done well, you would not have spoken like this. This sentence shocked him greatly, and after that, as soon as he discovered his shortcomings, he tried his best to correct them.Whether he is playing bowling or later playing basketball, he requires himself to do two things: first, devote more time and energy to practice than others;It is precisely because of these two points that he has become the best player. I also remembered that when I visited Panasonic Corporation in Japan, I saw such a passage on the placard: If you have wisdom, please contribute your wisdom; If you have no wisdom, please contribute your sweat; If you don't contribute either, please leave the company. From this we can see that employees can actually be divided into three types: (1) Employees who are dedicated and able to find ways.They have wisdom and are willing to contribute wisdom, and this wisdom will definitely create wealth for the enterprise.There is no doubt that this type of employee is the best employee. (2) Employees who are dedicated but lack methods.They can and can only contribute their sweat. This kind of employee unit needs it, but they themselves will not have much development. (3) Employees who neither seek solutions nor are dedicated to their work.They have nothing to offer, so the final outcome can only be to leave. On this basis, I made this summary: First-rate employees are both dedicated and find ways; second-rate employees are only dedicated; low-rate employees make excuses. If you want to get the most development, there is no doubt that you should strive to be the first type of employees.
